Bruins sweep weekly NSAA awards

MADISON, S.D. -- After going 3-0 on the week, the Bellevue University softball team swept the weekly North Star Athletic Association honors announced by the league office on Monday. Junior Lauren Jurek was named the NSAA Pitcher of the Week, while freshman first baseman Reese Floro garnered NSAA Player of the Week honors. 

The duo helped the Bruins to a 7-5 win over Midland and to a doubleheader sweep over Jamestown, winning by scores of 3-1 and 11-1 (5 innings). 

Jurek earned the complete-game win in BU's 3-1 victory over Jamestown, allowing just six hits with one walk and five strikeouts in seven innings in the circle. At the plate, Jurek was 5-for-7 for a.714 batting average, with two doubles and a pair of RBIs.  

Floro batted an impressive .818 on the week, going 9-for-11, with four doubles, a home run, and five RBIs. She pounded out a 1.455 slugging percentage in the three contests. Floro had at least one extra-base hit in each game, including a 4-for-4 performance with two doubles, a home run, and four RBIs in BU's 11-1 victory over the Jimmies. 

Floro currently leads the Bruins and is second in the NSAA with a .493 batting average and 10 doubles. 

The Bruins will host College of St. Mary on Thursday, Mar. 24 in a 5 p.m. non-conference contest at Roy Smith Field.
