Bruins down Judson, fall to SHU

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a pair of games on Thursday at THE Spring Games, downing Judson University, 10-1, before falling to Siena Heights University, 6-2, in the nightcap at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex. 

With the split, the Bruins moved to 8-8 on the season. 

Bellevue wraps up play on Friday in THE Spring Games, battling Bethel (Ind.) at 12:30 p.m. and Cornerstone at 2:45 p.m. 

Bellevue 10, Judson 1 (6 innings) 

The Bruins scored multiple runs in four innings and used the solid pitching efforts of Cory Carrillo and Savannah Gunn en route to the 10-1 victory over Judson in the opener. 

Bellevue got out of the gates quickly scoring four runs in the top of the first inning on a pair of two-run singles by Ashley Young and Allison O'Driscoll

BU scored two more runs on passed balls to extend the margin to 6-0 in the top of the third frame. 

A two-run homer to center field by Reese Floro made it 8-0 in the top of the fourth inning. 

The Eagles avoided the shutout, scoring on a Bruin fielding error in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-1. 

The Bruins added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run double to center field by Maricela Egan, to push the margin to 10-1.  

Carrillo (3-1) earned the win, allowing just two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in three innings of work. Gunn scattered three hits with no walks and five strikeouts in the final three innings of the contest.  

Siena Heights 6, Bellevue 2

Siena Heights rallied with five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to come from behind to register a 6-2 victory over the Bruins in the nightcap. 

SHU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, scoring on an RBI single to center field by Lyndsey Pena. 

BU tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on an RBI double to right-center field by O'Driscoll.

The Bruins took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI double to left field by Lauren Jurek

The Saints erupted for four runs in the top of the fifth, scoring on a groundout RBI by Maddie Herrera, an RBI single to left field by Kelsey Uhl, and on a two-run single to left field by Pena, to take a 5-2 advantage. 

SHU added a sixth run in the top of the sixth frame on a sacrifice fly to left field by Shyann Truax. 

Jurek (2-2) suffered the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 4.1 innings in the circle. 

Truax (2-0) picked up the victory in relief, allowing just one hit with no walks and three strikeouts in the final four innings of the game.
