Softball drops battle with No. 8 IWU, 7-1

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Eighth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan pounded out 10 hits while limiting the Bruins to three as IWU registered a 7-1 victory over Bellevue University Tuesday afternoon at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex in THE Spring Games. 

With the loss, the Bruins fell to 7-7 on the season. The Wildcats improved to 10-2 overall.  

IWU took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI double to left field by Chloe Tragesser and on a two-run homer to center field by Miranda Wehrle. 

An RBI single to left field by Maddy Franklin increased the advantage to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth frame. 

The Wildcats extended the lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to center field by Sadie Harding and on a two-run homer to center field by Elisa Koshy. 

Bellevue got on the board in the top of the seventh with an RBI double to left field by Emily Rochford to slice the deficit to 7-1.  

Katie Cunningham (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in three innings of work. 

Emma Etter-Cox (2-0) earned the win, scattering two hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in six innings in the circle. 

Rochford led Bellevue offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  

The Bruins will resume action at THE Spring Games on Thursday (March 10) when they take on Judson at 8 a.m. (CST) and Siena Heights at 10:15 a.m. (CST).
