Bellevue announces addition of Gunn to 2020 Signing Class

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team, under head coach Michala Cimino, announced today the signing of Savannah Gunn (Forney, Texas/North Forney HS) to a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2020.

The daughter of Kyle and Deanna Gunn, Savannah comes to Bellevue from North Forney High School where she played softball for Coach Kelsie Garner. She intends to be a pre-veterinary major at BU.

A two-way star at North Forney HS, Gunn pitched to a 19-12 record with 199 strikeouts in 156 innings while hitting .425 with five doubles and 22 RBI as a junior last season. For her career, in the circle, Gunn logged a 37-27 record and struck out 334 batters in 303 innings of work. At the dish, she was a career .338 hitter with 37 RBI, and nine doubles to go along with four stolen bases.

After earning second team all-district honors as a sophomore, Gunn was named the All-District Pitcher of the Year after setting North Forney's single-season (199) and career (334) strikeout records.

In addition to her athletic prowess, Gunn is an exemplary student. She has twice been named Academic All-District, is in the top 10 percent of her class, and maintains a 4.50 GPA.

Gunn plays her club softball for Texas Blaze NTX Picazo for Coach Daniel Picazo. With 1,442 strikeouts to her name during her club career, she helped her team qualify for the 2015 ASA Southern Nationals and has won numerous club awards, including; 2014-15 USSSA Nationals MVP, 2015 ASA Southern Nationals MVP, 2017 USSSA All-State MVP, 2018 USSSA All-State MVP, 2018 Under Armour National Team Selection, 2019 USSSA Nationals MVP.

Gunn joins earlier signees Sydni Haugaard (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS), Amanda Placzek (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Mercy HS), and Alyssa Morbach (Gretna, Neb./Gretna HS) in the Bruins' 2020 recruiting class.

The Bruins are coming off a season in which they posted a 44-20 overall record and registered a 23-5 mark in conference play. After a second-place finish in the regular-season, Bellevue advanced to the NSAA Championship Series and earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament. For BU, it was their 10th National Tournament Appearance and seventh in just the last 10 seasons.
