LA CROSSE, WI -- The Bellevue University softball team pounded out 30 hits on the day en route to 15-3 and 10-1 victories at Viterbo University Saturday afternoon in North Star Athletic Association action at the Viterbo Outdoor Athletic Complex.
Both games ended in the fifth inning on the eight-run rule.
The Bruins improved to 22-12 overall and 5-1 in the NSAA with the sweep. Viterbo dropped to 8-15 on the season and 3-3 in league play.
The two teams will conclude the four-game series with a noon doubleheader on Sunday in LaCrosse.
Game 1: Bellevue 15, Viterbo 3 (5 innings)
The Bruins had a season-high 18 hits in the 15-3 victory in the opener. Erin Sharpe, Kaitlyn Kinman, and Maricela Egan all produced three hits in the win. Sharpe went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two doubles, and a home run. Egan was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a grand slam home run.
Bellevue produced multiple runs in each of the first five innings, highlighted by a six-run fifth inning which saw Egan launch a grand slam over the left-field fence.
Maddie Siedlik also launched her first home run of the season in the victory.
Monique Ashley earned the win, improving to 7-6 on the season. She scattered five hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in five innings of work.
Game 2: Bellevue 10, Viterbo 1 (5 innings)
The Bruins used a five-run fourth inning to pull away from the V-Hawks, en route to the 10-1 victory in the nightcap. The inning was highlighted by Siedlik's second home run of the day, a two-run shot to left-center field.
Sharpe (5-3) kept VU at bay, allowing just one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in five innings in the circle.
At the plate, Sharpe drove in three runs, sparked by a two-run homer in the top of the first.
Ellie Bliemeister and Egan both went 3-for-3 in the victory.
On the day, Egan went 6-for-7 with a double, a home run and five RBIs. Sharpe finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBIs.
