FORT WORTH, Texas -- The Bellevue University softball team finished the opening weekend of the 2019 season with a perfect 4-0 record at the Cowtown Classic being played in cold and rainy conditions Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Bruins defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan, 11-2, in six innings in the opening game before ending the tournament with a 6-1 victory over William Woods. On the weekend, the Bruins outscored their opponents, 30-7.
The Bruins will return to action on Feb. 22-23 when they travel to Springfield, Mo. to participate in the World Series Preview Tournament hosted by Evangel University.
Bellevue 11, Oklahoma Wesleyan 2
Kaitlyn Kinman went 4-for-4 with three doubles and drove in four runs to pace the Bruin offense in the 11-2 win over OKWU in the opener.
The Bruins broke open a tight one-inning game, scoring four runs in the fourth, sparked by Kinman's three-run double. BU added another four runs in the sixth highlighted by Erin Sharpe's first home run of the season.
Emily Rochford finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Ellie Bliemeister also produced a pair of hits on three attempts.
Brieanna Bock (1-0) picked up her first win of the season, coming in to relieve starter Myah Boehnke in the second inning. She did not allow a hit while registering four strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.
Bellevue 6, William Woods 1
Sharpe ignited the Bruin offense with her second home run of the day, a two-run blast giving BU a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
The Bruins extended the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by an RBI triple from Kylee Sargent.
Bliemeister went 3-for-4 in the victory, with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.
Monique Ashley (3-0) picked up her third win of the weekend, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six in seven complete innings of work.
