CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Bellevue University softball team scored a season-high 10 runs in a 10-3 victory over Calumet College of Saint Joseph and dropped a 2-0 pitcher's duel to Siena Heights University as the Bruins split a pair of games at the PFX Spring Games on Sunday.
With the split, BU's record now stands at 8-7 on the season. The Bruins have a big day tomorrow with three games on tap against Grace (7 a.m.), Lourdes (9:30 a.m.), and Fisher (noon).
Game One: Bellevue 10, Calumet 3
Erin Sharpe produced a three-hit, four-RBI game which included a home run and a double as BU used an offensive explosion to down Calumet.
The Crimson Wave grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an unearned run but that was about the only bright spot for CCSJ.
Bellevue wasted no time responding as they threw a five-spot on the scoreboard in the top off the second. Hannah Carter delivered a two-run double and Sharpe put a charge into a three-run home run as BU grabbed a 5-1 lead.
Back-to-back RBI-doubles from Kaitlyn Kinman and Courtney Schendt in the fifth pushed that lead to 7-1. Then, in the sixth, Sharpe singled home another run before Schendt added a two-run single to make the score 10-1 in favor of BU.
Calumet struck for a pair of unearned runs in the home half to avoid being eight-run ruled.
Lexi LeCalsey (W, 2-2) went the distance for BU limiting Calumet to just three unearned runs on five hits while striking out six.
Game Two: Siena Heights 2, Bellevue 0
BU was unable to solve Siena Heights' Lesley Ducat (W, 2-0) in game two as the Saints' hurler tossed a complete game shutout in which she limited the Bruins to just two hits and a pair of walks.
Siena Heights scored one run in each the second and sixth innings. Amy Nordstrom drove home Hannah Bleikamp with a ground ball in the second and Bleikamp delivered an RBI-single in the sixth after BU's third error of the game allowed the insurance run to reach base.
Hannah Carter and Sarah Zeleny both had hits in the loss. Carter also had a stolen base for the Bruins.
Kelli Fisher (L, 6-3) was again the tough-luck loser for the Bruins despite another strong performance in the circle. She went the distance allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk.
It was the second start in a row in which the Bruin senior received no run support.
