BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The top-seeded Bellevue University softball team scored six runs in the top of the third inning as the Bruins advanced to the MCAC Tournament championship game with a 10-3 win over College of St. Mary Friday night at Haworth Park.
The Bruins (31-14) will face the winner of Saturday's 12 p.m. elimination contest between York and CSM at 2:30 p.m.
Junior Jessica Guyle went 2-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Bruins at the plate. Senior Aly Bowers improved to 10-5 on the season, scattering eight hits while striking out 11 batters.
Doubles by Gansz and Guyle in the top of the first inning gave Bellevue an early 1-0 lead. Courtney Barrier's solo homer over the center field fence tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
The Bruins erupted for six runs in the top of the third, highlighted by RBI singles by Jenny Gawart and Allie Bartley to give BU a 7-1 advantage.
The Flames got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Megan O'Hara and a one-run single by Audree Uhlarik.
A three-run double by Guyle to deep center field expanded the Bruin cushion to 10-3 in the top of the seventh inning.
Bowers retired all three batters in the bottom of the seventh as Bellevue won their seventh-straight contest.
