Bruin Distance Running welcomed Peyton Anthony (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista South HS) this morning as the third member of the 2021 signing class. Anthony had a breakout senior year leading his Titan team to a fifth-place finish at the Nebraska Class A State Cross Country meet and a runner-up medal in the 4 by 800-meter relay at the Nebraska State Track & Field Championships.

During the 2020 cross country season, Anthony was a consistent finisher throughout, placing in the top ten in each of his races. He placed third at the district qualifying race before running to a 20th place finish at the Nebraska State Meet. His time of 16:36.1 was just off his personal best of 16:32.7 run at the Millard West Quad. His state meet performance was a forty-second improvement from the 2019 State Meet.

On the track this spring, Anthony's focus was on the 800 meters where he improved dramatically, ultimately running a personal best 1:58.27 at the Nebraska State Track Meet, good for 11th place. He was runner-up at the Metro Conference meet and placed third at the district meet. Anthony was also a part of the Titan's 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relay squads and led his 4 x 800 team to the silver medal at the State Meet, posting a lead-off split of 1:58.1. Anthony ran a solid 4:30.0 in the 1,600 meters early in the season showcasing the range of his ability.

Head Coach Craig Christians: "Peyton is a fantastic addition to our squad and is going to impact our steady improvement as a program. I love guys with the kind of range he exhibits. He's got great natural speed over 400 meters and the endurance to excel in cross country. He's obviously not afraid to work hard and I know that Coach Stenger at Papio South has done a great job preparing him for what lies ahead. He's also got a great academic record and I know that he'll have success here on the course, the track, and in the classroom."
