Cisneros brace give Bruins intra-state win over Midland, 2-1

FREMONT, Neb. -- Edwin Cisneros scored both second half Bruin goals to lead the No. 8 Bellevue University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Midland University on Wednesday evening.

Bellevue continued their unbeaten start, improving to 8-0-2 while Midland slides to 3-4-4.

The first half largely belong to Bellevue's attack with BU peppering the Warrior goal with 11 shots, though just two found their way on target. Midland managed just four shots in the opening 45 minutes with just one finding its way on goal.

Edwin Cisneros broke through in the 58th minute with his second goal of the season. Matias Daniel-Doren won a 50-50 ball in the attacking half and laid a pass back to Giovani Lima Soares who found Jose-Miguel Boggio going forward. Boggio hit Kyi Nicholson in stride up the near sideline and Nicholson sent a cross to the back post that Cisneros tapped on a volley into the back of the net.

The Bruins doubled their advantage in the 82nd minute with another strike from Cisneros, his third of the year. Cisneros played a quick give-and-go with Alvaro Moros Sanz in the middle of the field. Moros Sanz took the pass and made a quick turn to find Cisneros streaking, unmarked, into the box where he slotted a shot between the keeper's legs.

A failed clearance in the 88th minute gave the Warriors life. Matheus Nascimento settled the effort and unleashed a shot from distance that bested Bruin keeper Taariq Ganga.

Midland was unable to produce another shot the rest of the way and Bellevue held on for the win.

The stat sheet finished fairly even with Bellevue out-shooting Midland just 15-14 and shots on goal finished even at six apiece). Corners went 9-4 in favor of BU.

Ganga stopped five of the six shots on goal he faced. Hugo Sjoeberg finished with three saves for the Warriors.
