Bruins blank Bluejays, 2-0

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Goals from Edwin Cisneros and Ombeni Mubake 29 seconds apart broke a scoreless tie as the No. 7-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team downed Tabor College 2-0 on Saturday evening.

The Bruins improve to 4-0-0 on the year while Tabor slides to 0-1-1.

Bellevue appeared out of sync at times early but found some rhythm before the halftime whistle with sustained pressure getting Jake Cover and Edwin Cisneros decent looks but the former had his attempt blocked and the latter saw his effort saved by Alejandro Honrado.

The game proceeded into halftime scoreless despite BU racking up a 10-1 advantage in shots, putting four on target.

Bellevue wasted little time getting on the board in the second half. Giovani Lima Soares played Cisneros in behind the defense with Cisneros hitting the accelerator and flying into the penalty area where he beat Honrado with a shot low for his first goal of the season.

Just 29 seconds later, BU doubled their lead with Matias Daniel-Doren collecting a failed cleared 28 yards from the Tabor goal. He delivered a leading pass to Mubake who took a touch inside the 18 an unleashed a shot into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Bellevue peppered the Tabor goal with 21 shots, including eight on frame as the scoreline could have been more lopsided. The Bluejays managed just one shot – from Liam Morgan – which sailed wide.

Taariq Ganga was not tasked with making a save in notching his second shutout of the season.

Honrado finished with six saves in the loss.

The Bruins travel to Seward, Neb. on Wednesday, Sept. 4 for an 8 p.m. non-conference affair against (RV) Concordia University (1-0-2).
