Bellevue scores season-high five goals in win over Drovers

PAPILLION, Neb. -- The Matias Daniel-Doren scored a hat trick over the final 17 minutes to secure a 5-2 victory for the Bellevue University men's soccer team over University of Science & Arts on Friday afternoon.

Bellevue improves to 5-4-2 while Science & Arts falls to 4-3-2.

Matija Malenovic put the Drovers on the board in the 18th minute, pouncing on an uncontrolled ball in the box and poking it home for a 1-0 lead.

Caedmon Schwanke leveled, picking up a loose ball of his own off a corner kick for his second goal of the year.

The score remained 1-1 into halftime while shots were 5-3 in favor of BU through 45 minutes.

Antonio Capra gave Bellevue the lead in the 49th minute with his first goal of the year. Alvaro Moros Sanz played Aphele Nzwanga into the box and Nzwanga sent a cross across the six to Capra who slotted home the go-ahead strike.

Science & Arts equalize in the 65th minute. Malenovic sent in a ball to the box for Darko Borisavljevic who chipped home the volley to again tie things up.

Science & Arts picked up a pair of red cards in the final 21 minutes. The first was issued to Stijn Iding in the 70th minute during a dead ball situation.

The Bruins took advantage in the 74th minute to regain the lead. Schwanke played a cross to the box onto the foot of Matias Daniel-Doren who sent in the go-ahead goal.

Goalkeeper Angel Diaz picked up a red card of his own in the 82nd minute after a vicious challenge on Daniel-Doren.

Bellevue capitalized on the ensuing free kick as Daniel-Doren put a kick on frame which was bobbled by the Drover keeper and into the net for a 4-2 Bruin lead.

Daniel-Doren added an insurance strike in the 89th minute as Alvaro Moros Sanz found him in space. Daniel-Doren, with space, settled the ball and rifled a howling shot into the upper corner.

The Bruins out-shot Science & Arts 14-12 on the day, putting eight shots on frame to the Drovers' four.

Taariq Ganga made two saves for BU. Louis Owens stopped two shots in eight-plus minutes after replacing the ejected Angel Diaz, who made one stop before his departure.

Bellevue travels to Columbia, Mo. on Tuesday, Sept. 26 for a 7 p.m. kick-off against 14th-ranked Columbia College (3-1-3).
