Bruins deal Vikings first loss of 2023

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Caedmon Schwanke and Buster Honeywood scored off Giovani Lima Soares to lead the Bellevue University men's soccer team past Grand View University 2-0 on Tuesday evening at Papillion Landing.

Bellevue improves to 4-3-2 while Grand View sees their perfect start to the season halted as they fall to 5-1-0.

Caedmon Schwanke put the Bruins on the board in the 24th minute. After BU won a corner kick, Giovani Lima Soares sent an in-swinging cross to the middle of the box. Schwanke rose up to meet it, scissor kicking home the game's first goal, and the first of his collegiate career.

Two minutes later Ombeni Mubake played Jake Cover in behind the Viking defense for a shot in stride but Bosco Pery came up with a stop to keep Grand View within a goal.

Buster Honeywood doubled the Bellevue lead in the 77th minute. Lima Soares again sent a corner into the box that Honeywood launched at to deliver a diving header for his first goal of the season.

Ganga made four saves in keeping his fourth clean sheet while Pery stopped two shots for the Vikings in the loss.
