CUNE tops Bellevue, 2-1

PAPILLION, Neb. -- A second half own goal proved the difference on Tuesday evening as Concordia University defeated the Bellevue University men's soccer team 2-1 at Papillion Landing.

Concordia remains unbeaten, improving to 4-0-0 while Bellevue slips to 2-3-2.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the fourth minute when a barrage of shots led to Carter Hinman collecting a rebound off Ferdi Hagen's shot and rippling the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Bellevue answered back in short order with Carlos Ortega Arguelles connecting with Jake Cover who knocked in the equalizer in the sixth minute.

The game remained level into halftime with Bellevue holding a 6-5 advantage in shots.

Eight minutes into the second half, Concordia took the lead on a Bellevue own when a Bruin pass found its way into the net.

Neither team recorded many scoring chances the rest of the way as CUNE held on for the win.

Gabriel Mendoza finished with three saves and Taariq Ganga totaled six saves for the Bruins.

Concordia tallied an 11-7 edge in shots while each team collected a pair of corner kicks.

The Bruins return home on Saturday, Sept. 9 when they host Northwestern College at Papillion Landing for a 6:30 p.m. kick-off.
