Vikings pilfer win over Bruins at MNU

OLATHE, Kan. -- Sam Green scored a penalty in the 19th minute which proved enough for No. 6 Missouri Valley College in defeating the Bellevue University men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field.

Records:

#6 Missouri Valley: 1-0-1
#12 Bellevue: 2-3-0

MVC 1, BU 0

Play opened with the majority of possession belonging to Missouri Valley. The Vikings created more early chances and the first shot on goal.

Bellevue was whistled for a foul in the box just ahead of the 19-minute mark and Sam Green stepped to the spot to slot home the spot kick for a 1-0 Viking lead.

Yoshiki Igarashi put a shot on target in the 21st minute but Romeo Paparesta made the save to keep things close.

Zach Robbins provided BU's lone shot on goal in the 40th minute while the score remained 1-0 to MVC at the halftime whistle.

Neither team created many second half chances though possession was more equitable.

Missouri Valley finished by out-shooting Bellevue 11-1 and collecting a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

Paparesta finished with four saves and Dusan Milosevic stopped the lone shot he saw – from Robbins – to earn the shutout.

Man of the Match:

Coach Mark Heath-Preston:

"It was a really good second half performance from the team, the best we have played this season so far. We still have to be better when we have the ball and we did that second half."
