Millward equals scoring mark as Bruins cruise past Jimmies, 4-1

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Toby Millward tied the program's career points record and the Bruin defense broke the program's longest streak without conceding a goal as the No. 10-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 win over visiting University of Jamestown on Saturday afternoon at Papillion Landing.

Records:

#10 Bellevue: 11-2-2
Jamestown: 5-7-2

Bruins 4, Jamestown 1

Toby Millward tied the career points record in the 36th minute, scoring on a corner kick when his cross caught some wind and carried into the goal at the back post.

Ruben Bande doubled the BU advantage with 1:09 to play in the first half. Lucas Milhomen slipped a pass from the top of the 18 behind the defense to Bande who beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation.

Bellevue controlled the attack in the first half, while possession as a whole was about equal, racking up eight shots to three for Jamestown.

A pair of goals from Alvaro Capra and Antonio Capra 5:29 apart in the second half put the game out of reach. Alvaro scored with a header in the 60th minute off an Anthony Cox free kick and Antonio scored in the 66th, as he one-timed home a pass at the top of the six from Gabriel Gaiotto.

The Jimmies put just one of their seven shots on goal. That came in the 77th minute when Max Gross scored from a free kick near the end line that curled inside the back post, similar to Millward's first half strike.

Bellevue saw the game out from there finishing with an 18-7 advantage in shots (5-1 on goal) and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Coach Mark Heath-Preston:

"We have been in a really good run of form. We have Hastings away on Wednesday before we get a short break. They are always good and it's a local derby so we have to be ready."

Man of the Match:

Lucas Milhomen – Provided an impact and spark off the bench.
