Dominating effort rewarded as Bruins pick up road win

SALINA, Kan. -- Goals from Oumar Sissoko and Toby Millward and a penalty kick save by AJ Jarvis highlighted a dominating performance as the Bellevue University men's soccer team defeated Kansas Wesleyan University 2-0 on Saturday evening at the Graves Family Sports Complex.

Records:

#11 Bellevue: 7-2-1
Kansas Wesleyan: 1-6-1

Bruins 2, KWU 0

Bellevue dominated possession and the stat sheet in the opening half but were unable to find the back of the net for their efforts.

Oumar Sissoko had the Bruins' best chance of the half after finding himself open near the penalty spot with the goalkeeper out of position but put too much on his attempt and missed high.

The game proceeded to halftime scoreless with Bellevue holding a 7-0 lead in shots and 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Sissoko put the Bruins on the board when he headed home a corner, delivered by Anthony Cox, in the 55th minute. It was his team-leading seventh goal of the year.

Toby Millward doubled the BU advantage in the 62nd minute with his sixth goal. With the ball loose in the box, Millward slid into traffic to finish after the initial cross from the wing.

KWU won and 89th minute penalty but AJ Jarvis came up with a diving save to keep the Coyotes off the board. It was his second save of the game as he kept his first clean sheet of the year and the team's second.

Bellevue out-shot Kansas Wesleyan 16-2 (9-2 on goal) on the night and won eight corners to the Coyotes' two.

Kansas Wesleyan's Oswaldo Diaz-Lopez made six saves in the loss.

Coach Mark Heath-Preston:

"We need to put our chances away. We played some fantastic football against a low block and we are happy with the win. Congratulations to Tom and the women's soccer team on a big win and a really good performance."
