SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- In a match-up of National Tournament teams from last season, the 8th-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team came up short, falling 4-1 to Morningside University on Wednesday evening.

Records:

#8 Bellevue: 4-1-1
(RV) Morningside: 2-1-0

Morningside 4, Bellevue 1

Morningside's Johannes Lang wasted no time putting the Mustangs on the scoreboard with an eighth minute goal.

Bellevue equalized in the 19th minute when Zach Robbins recorded his first goal of the campaign but consecutive strikes three minutes apart from Victor Beker and Robin Thomala provided a 3-1 advantage for the host side.

With the game seemingly in hand, Moritz Lusch put it out of reach in the 82nd minute with the Mustangs fourth goal.

Despite the score, Bellevue out-shot Morningside 20-13 but Bjarne Huth made eight saves for the Mustangs who were out-gunned 9-6 in shots on target.

AJ Jarvis made a pair of saves for the Bruins in the loss.

The loss ended a run of 15 games in which Bellevue was unbeaten run in regular-season play; the Bruins had posted a 12-0-3 record in such games dating back to Oct. 14, 2020.

Coach Mark Heath-Preston:

"We dominated the game with the ball and had chances but quality in both boxes hurt us. We can't give up easy goals like we did today and we have to finish our chances."
