PAPILLION, Neb. -- The Bruins offense continued their fine run of form in the early season as Bellevue University men's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win over visiting Iowa Wesleyan University on Saturday evening at Papillion Landing.

Records:

#8 Bellevue: 4-0-1
Iowa Wesleyan: 0-4-0

Bellevue 6, Iowa Wesleyan 0

Bellevue was on the gas from the start, creating chances early and often before finally breaking through in the 35th minute to being a run of six goals in 24 minutes. Antonio Capra hit a volley hard and high after a Bellevue cross was knocked down in the box by a defender.

Toby Millward doubled the BU lead in the 39th minute. Capra sent in a cross that Jaeger Erickson volleyed back across the goal mouth and Millward hit the ball out of mid-air into the back of the net.

John Cover scored in the 42nd, toe-poking the ball out of a defender's possession and into the goal from the six.

Ruben Bande put the Bruins four goals ahead going into the break as he headed Cover's corner kick at the back post.

Millward scored his second of the night off a turnover early in the second half. After intercepting an IWU pass, Millward bee-lined for the goal and unleashed a low, hard shot from about 20 yards that beat the diving keeper.

Oumar Sissoko capped the scoring with his 59th minute strike. Millward lofted a corner to the back post where Andy Wilkinson headed it back to the center of the box for Sissoko who headed home the sixth goal of the evening for the Bruins.

Frustration boiled over for Iowa Wesleyan in the 65th minute as Raul Garcia was sent off following five earlier cautions being issued to the visiting side.

Bellevue peppered the Tiger defense with 30 shots, including 11 on net while limiting Iowa Wesleyan to three chances that never caused any trouble.

AJ Jarvis and William Burgaard combined on the clean sheet, despite neither being asked to make a save. Alvaro Morera finished with five saves for IWU.

Coach Mark Heath-Preston:

"Attitude from Bellevue was fantastic every minute of the game. We pressed, we worked, and we created plenty of chances. Morningside is a big one Wednesday so he to have to rest and continue to improve."

Man of the Match:

Toby Millward – for his two goals.

Up Next:

Notes:

  • Toby Millward (34 G, 34 A, 102 Points) became just the third player in program history to eclipse the 100-point mark, joining current BU head coach Mark Heath-Preston and former Bruin Inaki Aldao as the only players to do so.
  • With now 34 goals, Millward now shares fifth place on the all-time goals scored list with Rob Smith.
