Millward, Wilkinson power BU past Lancers

YANKTON, S.D. -- Andy Wilkinson scored twice and Toby Millward played a part in all four goals to fuel the Bellevue University men's soccer team to a 4-1 win at Mount Marty University on Sunday afternoon at Crane-Youngworth Field.

Records:

Bellevue: 6-4-0
Mount Marty: 1-4-2

Recap: BU 4, MMU 1

Bellevue scored three first half goals from set pieces as the Bruins raced ahead and never looked back.

After securing an early corner kick, Toby Millward sent a cross into the box that Andy Wilkinson rose up to meet with his head and authoritatively redirected the ball into the back of the net for an eighth minute 1-0 Bruin lead.

Sitting with that early lead, Millward double the Bruin advantage in the 13th minute. The Bruins won a free kick in a dangerous area outside the 18 that Millward shot over the wall and under the crossbar without the keeper even having a chance to move.

Millward and Wilkinson again connected in the 43rd minute when BU won yet another free kick. This time, from near the corner of the 18, Millward sent in a cross that Wilkinson again headed into goal for a sizable 3-0 lead.

Bellevue took that 3-0 lead, on the strength of a 17-3 advantage in shots, into the halftime break.

The Lancers pulled a goal back just after the interval when Savas Di Lascio scored off a pass from Joey Callan just 30 seconds into the second half.

The score remained 3-1 until Inaki Aldao scored his team-leading 13th goal on a breakaway, off a pass from Millward, in the 73rd minute.

Bellevue dominated the final stat sheet with a 22-7 edge in shots including a 14-4 advantage in shots on target. Additionally, the Bruins piled up a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Harry Wray finished with three saves in goal while a pair of Lancer keepers combined for 10 stops.
