Opening Round Qualifiers Release
Opening Round Schedule & Results
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Following a record-breaking regular season the Bellevue University men's soccer team has earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
The Bruins were one of just four teams to earn an at-large berth when the 31 National Tournament qualifiers were announced on Monday afternoon.
Bellevue (17-1-2) will host Marymount University (13-4-3) on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. at Caniglia Field on the campus of the University of Nebraska Omaha.
The Mariners qualified for the Opening Round by defeating Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 4-0, in the California Pacific Conference Championship Game.
BU completed its most successful regular-season in program history with an unbeaten 17-0-1 mark entering the A.I.I. Tournament. In total the Bruins went 19 games without a defeat before falling to fellow National Tournament qualifier Georgia Gwinnett College, 2-1, in the A.I.I. Championship Game on the Grizzlies home field.
The 17 victories are the most in a single-season in program history, eclipsing the previous mark of 16 set during the 2005 campaign.
On the year the Bruins have a +50 goal differential, scoring 65 and conceding just 15 on the season. The 65 goals are the second-most all-time in a single-season (66 in 2006). To date, Bellevue is 2-1-0 against National Tournament qualifiers; they defeated Morningside and Columbia and lost to Georgia Gwinnett.
Bellevue was rated sixth in the latest MRPI which was released on Friday, Nov. 9. Marymount was the 57th rated team.
The Bruins will be making their sixth National Tournament Appearance (2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018) and will be hosting an Opening Round match for the first time.
Final Site host Vanguard University will be joined by the 15 Opening Round winners at the OC Great Park Soccer Stadium from Monday-Saturday, Nov. 26-Dec. 1 where the National Champion will be crowned.
