BU claims NSAA Title with 2-0 win over Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa -- Andres Blanco and Scott Robson scored first half goals to lead the Bellevue University men's soccer team defeated Waldorf University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Bolstorff Field in the regular-season finale for both schools.

With the victory, Bellevue wraps up the 2017 regular season with an 8-7-1 (4-0-0 NSAA) record while the loss sees Waldorf ends their regular-season with a record of 8-7-3 (3-1-0 NSAA).

By defeating Waldorf, Bellevue won their fourth-straight regular-season conference championship and are now unbeaten in their last 20 league games (19-0-1) dating back to 2013.

Blanco put Bellevue on the board first with a goal in the 27th minute off a pass from Finlay Bloodworth.

Robson doubled the BU advantage in the 45th minute after Lamine Doumbia drew a penalty kick. Robson scored the spot kick and the Bruins took a 2-0 lead into the locker room. The Bruins held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal in the first half.

The Bellevue defense remained tight in the second half as the Bruins limited Waldorf to just two shots on goal in the period en route to their fourth-straight shutout victory.

Bellevue's Harry Wray made four saves in goal to earn the victory and record the clean sheet. Waldorf's Corey Stephens stopped five shots in the loss.

BU head coach Mark Heath-Preston cited Blanco as the Bruins' Man of the Match.

The Bruins begin their post-season journey on Friday, Nov. 10 in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Tournament semi-finals in Lawrenceville, Ga. The bracket and game times will be announced on Monday, Oct. 30.
