HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Bellevue conceded the game's first goal but showed toughness and resolve to battle back for a 2-1 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Blackwell Field.
The win sees BU improve to 4-5-1 on the season while HLGU drops to 4-4-0 with the loss.
Hugo Lopez opened the scoring for the Trojans in the game's 23rd minute with an unassisted goal that put the home side 1-0 up.
That's where the score stayed through halftime but Bellevue wasted little time in the second half before pulling level. After a foul in the box in the 58th minute Scott Robson stepped to the penalty spot and found the back of the net for his team co-leading fourth goal of the season.
Just over six minutes later, in the 64th minute, Andres Blanco put BU a goal to the good with his second strike of the season with the assist credited to Lee Woolmore.
BU picked up the victory despite being out-shot 19-12 by the Trojans which included seeing Hannibal-LaGrange put eight shots on target to Bellevue's six. AJ Jarvis, however, was up to the task in goal as he made a career-high seven saves to help the Bruins to the win.
Bruin head coach Mark Heath-Preston tabbed defender Toby Millward as BU's Man of the Match and added that "Edgar Guzman and Lee Woolmore put in good performances" as well. He went on to add that he was "very happy with the positive reaction the boys showed after going down a goal. We showed good fight and stayed positive throughout the game."
Bellevue will seek their third win in their last four matches when they travel to Seward, Neb. on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a 3 p.m. match against Concordia University.
