Bellevue earns 1-0 win over Morningside

SIOUX City, Iowa -- A strong team performance saw the Bellevue University men's soccer team defeat Morningside College by a score of 1-0 on Saturday evening in non-conference at Elwood Olson Stadium.

The win sees Bellevue snap a three-game losing skid and improve to 3-4-1 while the Mustangs dip to 3-2-3 with the loss as they are now winless in their past three contests.

Edgar Guzman sent the Bruins ahead of Morningside in the game's 43rd minute with his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The deciding goal came on a free kick and. It was his first game-winner of the season and second of his Bruin career.

BU was out-shot by Morningside by an 11-10 margin but had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Each team earned three corner kicks.

AJ Jarvis earned the win in goal for Bellevue with a four-save effort to back his first career shutout. Tim Erdmann made five stops in goal but took the loss for Morningside.

Bruin head coach Mark Heath-Preston named both Andy Wilkinson and Andres Blanco as his co-Men of the Match for their efforts on Saturday evening.

Heath-Preston had a lot of positives to say about both the team and several individuals. "Overall it was a good team performance which we'll look to build on for Tuesday's game at Hastings. Also, we were very happy with Jack Fino's (Finocchiaro) first start as a freshman and Travis Hurd continued to impress in the middle."

Bellevue returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 with a 7:30 p.m. match at defending NAIA National Champion Hastings College in Hastings, Neb.
