DENVER, Colo. -- After scoring 10 goals through their first two games of the season, the Bellevue University men's soccer team was held goalless in a 3-0 defeat to Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Aurora Sports Park.
Jacob Singer recorded a hat trick for IWU with all three goals coming after halftime.
Indiana Wesleyan evened their overall record at 1-1-0 with the victory while the Bruins fell to 1-1-1 after suffering their first loss of the campaign.
The first half of the game saw Indiana Wesleyan out-shoot Bellevue 6-1 but the Bruins withstood the attack and the match proceeded to halftime scoreless.
Singer broke the tie in the 57th minute with his first goal of the game. Nico Matern sent a pass to Sammy Conti who passed the ball across the box to Singer who chipped the ball into the goal from six yards.
Indiana Wesleyan doubled their advantage in the 66th minute courtesy of another Singer chip shot. This one came off a pass from Will McComb and was sent in from eight yards.
Singer completed his hat trick in the 85th minute, beating the keeper with a shot from eight yards off a pass from Matern.
Harry Wray (1-1-0) got the start in goal for Bellevue and worked the game's first 79:33 before giving way to AJ Jarvis to work the final minutes. Wray made four stops and allowed two goals while Jarvis stopped one of the two shots he faced.
The Wildcats out-shot BU 15-8 on the afternoon and put eight shots on target to the Bruins' three. Indiana Wesleyan out-gained Bellevue with three corner kicks to two. Lucas Francello saved all three Bellevue shots on frame to earn the clean sheet.
Lee Woolmore put two shots on goal for the Bruins with Finlay Bloodworth the only other BU player to find the target.
BU returns to action on Wednesday, Aug. 30 when they travel to Orange City, Iowa for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Northwestern College.
