BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Jonathon Callaghan (Falkirk, Scotland) and freshman Jonus Starkus (Bellevue, Neb.) have been named North Star Athletic Association Men's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the NSAA.
The awards are the first of each player's Bellevue career.
Callaghan was very active on both ends of the pitch and proved an integral part of Bellevue's North Star Athletic Association victory over Viterbo on Saturday afternoon. Callaghan served as the designated set piece taker when on the field, delivering numerous quality balls into the box and corners and free kicks alike to create many attacking chances. He helped anchor a defensive line which conceded just three shots (one shot on goal) and assisted on the game-winning goal.
Starkus was outstanding in his first career start, scoring three times to become the second Bruin this season to record a hat trick in Bellevue's North Star Athletic Association victory over Viterbo on Saturday afternoon. In scoring all three goals, Starkus knocked off a number of milestones including; first goal, first game-winning goal, and first hat trick. In addition to scoring three times, Starkus was very active with runs into the box and recorded three additional shots.
The 13th-ranked Bruins (7-2-2/1-0-0 NSAA) are back in action with a pair of North Star match-ups this weekend. The Bruins travel to Jamestown for a 4 p.m. match on Friday and visit Presentation for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.
