SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Following a scoreless ninety minutes sophomore Rob Smith scored 39 seconds into extra time to send the No. 14 Bellevue University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over (RV) Hope International University on Friday afternoon.

In the 91st minute Smith put a shot inside the right post from 18-yards off of a tip from sophomore Jacob Pease. The goal was the first of the season for Smith who tied for the team lead in goals and led in game-winners a season ago for the Bruins.

For the match Bellevue held a 16-7 edge in shots (8-4 shots on goal) and each team earned a pair of corner kicks. With the win the Bruins improve to 1-0-1 against teams that are either ranked or receiving votes and in matches that require extra time.

Junior Ben Martin stopped all four shots he faced to preserve his fourth shutout of the campaign and lower his goals against average to 0.47 while upping his save percentage to .882.

Bellevue (3-0-1) returns to the pitch on Sunday for a 1 pm match with Westminster College.
