OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team defeated Central Baptist College 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Tranquility Park.
Bellevue improved to 4-6-0 and 1-0-0 in the MCAC while Central Baptist dropped to 2-7-0 and 0-1-0 in league play.
BU struck first on Leigh Veidman's goal off a pass from Tobias Maertzke 22:11 into the contest.
The Bruins added to their lead on Gary Rafferty's goal at 42:52. Rafferty stole the ball from the CBC defense and beat goalkeeper Alberto Pinto.
BU took a 3-0 lead on Manuel Lira's goal off of a corner kick by Maertzke in the 53rd minute.
The Mustangs scored their lone goal of the match on Sabelo Hlongwane's penalty kick at the 78:26 mark in the second half.
Scott Robertson earned his third win of the season in goal for the Bruins.
The Bruins outshot CBC by a 19-4 margin with nine corner kicks.
The BU men's soccer team will travel to Bartlesville, Okla. on Saturday, Oct. 12 for a 3:30 p.m. conference match at fourth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
