Eaglesham's two goals lift BU past CCC, 3-2, in two overtimes

MCPHERSON, Kan. -- For the second-straight game, Graeme Eaglesham scored two goals, including the game-winner, to propel the Bellevue University men's soccer team to a 3-2 double overtime win at Central Christian College Saturday afternoon in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Bellevue has now won four-straight matches and improved to 5-6-1 and 2-0 in conference play while the Tigers fell to 6-5-1 and 1-1 in the MCAC.

Eaglesham, this week's MCAC Player of the Week, netted the game-winner on a header off a cross from Matt Ward in 109th minute. It was also the second time the two players connected on a goal as Ward assisted on Eaglesham's goal in the second period.

BU outshot CCC by 35-16 margin including a 15-4 edge in corner kicks. The 35 shots are a season-high for the Bruins.

Rob Jackson opened the scoring with a goal in the 34th minute. He took a shot from 16 yards out that hit off the inside of the post before sneaking into the back of the net to give the visiting Bruins a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Bruins controlled the action in the opening period and held a 14-2 edge in shots.

The Tigers knotted the match at 1-1 with a header by Martin Marfo off a free kick at 61:24.

Following the goal, BU goalkeeper Luke Baxter left with a hip injury and Brady Batchelor made his third appearance in goal this season.

BU regained the lead on Eaglesham's first goal on a pass from Ward at 72:49.

Marfo scored his second goal of the game off a corner kick by Gunnar Kelly with just 3:47 left in the second half to send the match into overtime.

Eaglesham, Jackson and Waters paced the offensive attack with five shots each while Alan Carr and Jacob Cawsey tallied four.

Batchelor (1-1-1) earned his first career win in goal for the Bruins recording one save in 46:59 minutes of action. Alex Akrawi stopped five Bruin shots while falling to 6-5-1.

BU will open a three-game homestand next week beginning with a 5:30 p.m. match versus York College on Oct. 10 at Tranquility Park.
