Eaglesham leads Bruins to 4-1 win at CBC in conference-opener

CONWAY, Ark. -- Graeme Eaglesham netted two goals to lead the Bellevue University men's soccer team to a 4-1 win at Central Baptist College Saturday afternoon at Centennial Soccer Park in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

The Bruins have now won three-straight matches and improved to 4-6-1 and 1-0 in the MCAC. The Mustangs drop to 4-4-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Eaglesham put BU on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute that beat CBC goalkeeper Dan Dawson.

Fabio Cunha responded with a goal at 39:16 to tie the match 1-1 at halftime.

The Bruins added two goals within the first six minutes of the second half to take a two-goal lead, 3-1. Eaglesham notched the game-winner just one minute into the period before Jamie Waters scored on a header from Mitch Kavanagh at 51:03.

David Lastra ended the scoring, finding the back of the net at 89:08 on a pass from Jamie Waters.

Luke Baxter, this week's NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week, stopped three shots en route to his fourth win of the season. Dawson recorded two in the loss.

BU outshot CBC 14-5, including a 6-1 edge in the first half.

Eaglesham leads the team with four goals this season.

The four Bruin goals are a season-high.

BU will return to the soccer pitch on Saturday, Oct. 6 for a 2:30 p.m. match at Central Christian College.
