SCU ends Bruins' season in shootout

BARTLESVILLE, Okla -- Southwestern Christian University ended the Bellevue University men's soccer team's season after the two teams battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in the semifinals of the 2011 MCAC Tournament. The Eagles advanced to the championship game after claiming a 4-2 edge in the shootout.

Bellevue ended its season with a 3-13-3 overall record. Southwestern Christian will play in the title game on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the top-seed, Oklahoma Wesleyan University.  

Martin Vance opened the scoring in the 17th minute off a penalty kick that beat Bruin goalie Luke Baxter.

Tom Dodds tied the game up at 1-1, scoring off a corner kick from Jacob Cawsey found the back of the net with two minutes remaining in the first half. 

Neither team could score in the second half or the two 10-minute overtime periods, forcing the shootout. After converting their first two attempts, the Bruins missed their final two shots to lose the shootout, 4-2.

Baxter notched 12 saves while Sam Taylor recorded 10 for the Eagles.
