Bruins opens MCAC play with shutout over York

YORK, Neb. -- The 22nd-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team opened MCAC play on Saturday with a 5-0 shutout at York College. The win ended the BU's three-game losing skid as five different Bruins scored in the win.

Bellevue improved to 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in the MCAC. The Panthers fell to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in league play.

David Lastra gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 15th minute off an assist from James Evison.

Evison scored a goal of his own at 22:59 to make it 2-0. Ryan Cantello was credited with the assist.

Leon Kita gave the Bruins a three-goal advantage with his first goal of the season at 36:57.

Cantello scored less than two minutes later and Mike Minchew scored his first Bruin goal at 62:16 to make the final, 5-0.

Sebastian Narvaez recorded his fourth shut out of the season, playing all 90 minutes in goal.

The Bruins controlled the action throughout the contest, allowing just two shots the entire game.

Bellevue will travel to Sioux City, Iowa on Tuesday, Oct. 5 for an 8 p.m. contest at Morningside College.
