Bruins secure top 10 finish at The Battle

LAUGHLIN, Neb. -- Sam Johnson fired a Bruin-best 2-under in Tuesday's final round to help the Bellevue University men's golf team secure a 10th-place finish at The Battle at the Laughlin Ranch Golf Club.

No. 2-ranked Keiser overcame a one-stroke deficit to shoot 10-under as a team, securing a 10-stroke victory over second-place No. 4 Ottawa. The Seahawks shot an even-par 864 as a team for the tournament. Ottawa shot 10-over, 874, edging out third place No. 9 Texas Wesleyan by a single stroke (875, +11). No. 18 Oklahoma City (879, +15) and No. 6 Wayland Baptist (880, +16) rounded out the top five.

Bellevue, ranked No. 14 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, finished in 10th place on the 6,987-yard, par 72 course where eight of the 17 teams in the field were ranked inside the Top 25 and four more were receiving votes.

Oklahoma City's Michael Robson shot a tournament-best 6-under, 66 to finish at 9-under (207) and edge out Texas Wesleyan's Juan Ricardo Davila Bone by one stroke for the Individual Title in the 97-golfer field.

Johnson was Bellevue's top finisher in the tournament, tying for 19th place. Johnson tallied six birdies on the day as he shot 5-under until a triple bogey on his penultimate hole dropped him from ninth to 19th place. He finished the tournament at 4-over (220).

Dylan Rodgers birdied a pair of holes en route to a 3-over 75 in the third round. He finished tied for 27th at 7-over (223).

Cayden Wynne turned in his best round of the tournament with a 1-over 73 as he jumped six spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 37th at 9-over (225). A pair of birdies and just three bogeys accounted for his scorecard.

Totte Uhlan shot 9-over on the day as he finished the tournament 15-over (231) and tied for 62nd place. Randy Christianson produced his best round with a 5-over 77 to climb up the standings. He finished tied for 76th at 18-over (234).

The Bruins return to the links on Monday-Tuesday, Apr. 8-9, when they compete at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kan.
