BU tied for fifth after first day at windy Whistling Straits

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Battling very windy and difficult playing conditions, the Bellevue University men's golf team is in a tie for fifth place after the first day of action at the 15-team Whistling Straits Championship being played at the 6,940-yard, par-72 Whistling Straits Golf Course. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 47-over par 335. BU, however, is just 12 strokes out of first place entering Tuesday's second round. 

NCAA Division II Davenport University leads the field at 35-over par (323). Lawrence Tech University and Taylor University are five strokes back at 40-over par (328). 

No golfer in the 75-player field shot under par in Monday's first round. Taylor's Will Schuitema leads the individual race at 4-over par. Four golfers are tied for second place at 7-over par.

Dylan Rodgers shot the Bruins' best round on the day with a 9-over 81, putting him in a tie for ninth place.

Hugo Brandt carded a 12-over 84 and is tied for 18th place. 

The trio of Totte Uhlan, Sam Johnson, and Cayden Wynne all shot a score of 13-over par 85, putting them in a tie for 26th place. 

Tomorrow's final round will begin with a 10 a.m. (central time) shotgun start.
