BU holds 8-stroke lead after opening day at Nebraska Intercollegiate

AXTELL, Neb. -- The Bruins had three golfers in the top 10, and the Bellevue University men's golf team has an 8-stroke lead after the opening day of competition at the Nebraska Intercollegiate being played at the 7,001-yard, par-72 Awarii Dunes Golf Club. 

Bellevue shot a team score of 14-over par 302 and holds an 8-stroke lead over Southeast Community College and an 11-stroke margin over Nebraska Wesleyan University in the 11-team field.  

Dylan Rodgers birdied four of the first five holes and recorded eight birdies overall while carding a 2-under 70 on the day. He was the lone golfer in the 52-player field to finish the day under par. Rodgers had six birdies on the front nine, where he recorded a 3-under 33. He has a two-stroke lead over Southeast Community College's Luke Strako, who finished at even par. 

Sam Johnson finished at 2-over par (74) and is currently tied for fourth place. His round was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th holes. 

Totte Uhlan registered a 6-over 78 and is tied for ninth place. He registered his first birdie on the final hole. He had 11 pars on the day.  

Hugo Brandt finished with an 8-over-par score of 80 and is tied for 22nd place. He recorded back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes.  

Rounding out the scoring for the Bruins was Cayden Wynne, who finished with an 11-over 83. He had three birdies and eight pars on the day and is currently tied for 36th place.  

The tournament will conclude on Saturday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
