MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Led by senior Rodrigo Navarrete, the Bellevue University men's golf team captured the team title at the 11-team Midwest National Spring Invite played at the 7,278-yard, par-72 Colbert Hills Golf Course.
The Bruins won the team title by six strokes over second-place Southwestern Christian University, finishing the tournament at 13-over par with rounds of 4-over 292 and 9-over 297.
Navarrete ran away with the individual crown, finishing at 5-under par with rounds of 4-under 68 and 1-under 71. He was the only player in the 74-player field to finish under par. Gerardo Alemany of Friends University finished in second, seven strokes back at 2-over par.
Navarrete recorded 11 birdies in his two rounds.
Floris-Jan Oosterhof finished in a tie for fourth place, 4-over par, with rounds of 75 and 73. He collected six birdies in the tournament.
Hugo Ronnberg shot rounds of 75 and 77, putting him in a tie for 16th place at 8-over par. He sank seven birdies in his two rounds.
Totte Uhlan tied for 35th place with rounds of 81 and 76 to finish at 13-over par. He registered four birdies in Tuesday's second round.
Alex Zillig carded rounds of 74 and 85, finishing in a tie for 41st place. He had six birdies in the tournament.
Competing as individuals, Hugo Brandt finished in a tie for 38th at 14-over par. Duncan Howie tied for 57th at 20-over par.
The Bruins are idle until they host the North Star Athletic Association Championships on May 1-2 at Platteview Country Club in Bellevue.
