Bruins go 1-2-3 to take Flyer Intercollegiate title

LEMONT, Ill. -- Bruin golfers occupied the top three spots in the individual standings as the No. 6-ranked Bellevue University men's golf team won their third tournament of the season, claiming a 22-stroke victory over second place Indian Hills Community College.

The event featuring schools from all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, and NJCAA saw Bellevue shoot 3-under as a unit. After logging an 8-under in Monday's first round, Bellevue again paced the field with a 5-over second round to shoot 293 for the day and 573 (-3) for the tournament.

Indian Hills shot 294 on Tuesday to finish at 19-over 595 for the event while Lake Superior State finished third with a score of 623, shooting 315 on the day. The Cog Hills Dubsdread Course played as a 7,078-yard Par 72 for the tournament.

Rodrigo Navarrete won the 63-player individual title, shooting a 140 across two rounds (69-71) to finish at 4-under.

Hugo Ronnberg carded a 3-over 75 Tuesday and finished second overall with a score of 142 (-2). Teammate Alex Zillig recorded an even-par second round to finish at 1-under for 36 holes with a score of 143 to finish in third place.

Bellevue's fourth scoring golfer Floris-Jan Oosterhof shot 5-over on the day to finish at 6-over 150 and alone in sixth place for the tournament.

Baptiste Bonnet, golfing as an individual, shot 78 on the day en route to finishing in a tie for 16th at 10-over 154.

Duncan Howie trimmed seven strokes off his first round score to move up to 23rd with a two-round total of 157 (+13).

The Bruins return to competition on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 17-18 when they compete in the Kohler Collegiate Classic at Whistling Straits.
