BU takes commanding lead after first day of Flyer Intercollegiate

LEMONT, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team took a commanding 21-stroke lead after the first round of play at the 11-team Lewis Flyer Intercollegiate being played at the 7,078-yard, par-72 Cog Hill Dubsdread Golf Course. 

The tournament consisted of four teams from NCAA Division II, one NCAA Division I squad, one NCAA Division III team, four NAIA schools, and one junior college squad. 

Bellevue holds the top three spots in the individual standings, finishing the day at 8-under par with a team score of 280. Indian Hills Community College is 21 strokes back at 13-over par (301). 

Hugo Ronnberg leads the 63-player field after firing a 5-under 67 on the day. Ronnberg had seven birdies, eight pars, and a pair of bogeys on the day. 

Rodrigo Navarrete sits in second place after carding a 3-under 69 in the opening round. His round was sparked by seven birdies. 

Alex Zillig was the third Bruin to shoot under par on the day. He finished with a 1-under total of 71 and is currently in third place. Zillig had five birdies in the opening round. 

Floris-Jan Oosterhof recorded a 1-over 73 and is in a tie for sixth place. He recorded four birdies and nine pars in his round. 

Baptiste Bonnet shot a 4-over 76 and is in a tie for 12th place in the individual standings. His round consisted of three birdies and 11 pars.  

Tuesday's final round will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
