BU in second after first day of U.C. Ferguson Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team is currently in second place after the opening day of play at the 18-team U.C. Ferguson Classic being played at par-71, 6,576-yard Lincoln Park Golf Course (West Course). 

The opening day was scheduled for 36 holes, but rain halted play early in Monday's second round. Play is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning in BU's season-opening event. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 9-under par 275 in the first round and are even par after three holes of the second round. 

Southwestern Christian fired a 14-under par opening round and is currently 3-under in the second round to hold an eight-shot lead over the Bruins at 17-under par. 

Rodrigo Navarrete was the top BU finisher on the day, carding an opening round of 4-under par 67. He is currently tied for fifth place in the 102-player field 

Navarrete's opening round 67 featured four birdies and 14 pars. 

Alex Zillig is 3-under par after collecting five birdies in his opening round. He is currently tied for eighth place.   

After recording an opening round 68, Hugo Brandt is 3-over in the second round, putting him at even par and in a tie for 33rd place. Brandt registered four birdies in the first round. 

Hugo Ronnberg and Floris-Jan Oosterhof are both 1-over par for the tournament and tied for 41st place.  

Ronnberg tallied one birdie, two bogeys, and 15 pars in his opening round of 72. Oosterhof's round was sparked by carding five birdies. 

Freshman Duncan Howie competed as an individual and finished the day at 5-over par with an opening round of 76, putting him in a tie for 70th place. He had five bogeys and 13 pars on the day.
