Bruins in tie for 7th after first day at NAIA Nationals

SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team turned in a consistent performance of 1-over par and currently sits in a tie for seventh place after the first round of competition at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. The four-day, 72-hole, 29-team tournament is being played at the TPC at Deere Run. The course measures 6,691 yards and is par 71. 

The Bruins, led by Alex Zillig, finished the first day with a team total of 285 (1-over par). Keiser University and Point University are tied for the team lead at 4-under par after both teams shot team scores of 280. Wayland Baptist University is one stroke back at 3-under par. 

Zillig fired a 1-under 70 in Tuesday's first round and is currently tied for 18th place in the 154-player field. His round was highlighted by collecting six birdies and seven pars. 

Hugo Ronnberg carded an even-par 70 and is tied for 34th place. He had four birdies, 10 pars, and four bogeys in the first round. 

Rodrigo Navarrete is tied for 49th place after shooting a 1-over 72. His round was sparked by four birdies and nine pars. 

Hugo Brandt also shot a 1-over 72 and is tied with Navarrete in 49th place. Brandt registered four birdies on the day. 

Baptiste Bonnet registered a 2-over 72 and is tied for 65th place. He had two birdies and 12 pars in the opening round. 

Point's Brendan Parker, Wayland Baptist's Sebastien Tremulot, and Morningside's Jonathan Douglas are all tied for the individual lead at 7-under par. Houston-Victoria's Jaxon Langford is one stroke back at 6-under par.  

BU will tee off in Wednesday's second round at 1:30 p.m.
