Bruins finish RMC Intercollegiate in 7th place

LAKE LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Four of five Bruin golfers improved their scores in Wednesday's final round as the Bellevue University men's golf team shaved 12 strokes off yesterday's team score to finish in seventh place at the RMC Intercollegiate at Lake Las Vegas.

Bellevue (+36) began and ended the day in seventh place overall, but did improve their team score by 12 strokes from yesterday. After shooting 312 (+24) as a unit on Tuesday, the Bruins shot an even 300, 12 over, in Wednesday's final round.

Embry-Riddle (+6) opened the day with a two-stroke lead over Wayland Baptist, Lewis-Clark State, and The Master's. By the end of the day they had gained separation from each of those three schools and held off a charge by Rocky Mountain, who shot a tournament-best 285 (-3) on the day, for a two-stroke victory, 589 (+13) to 591 (+15). Rocky Mountain began the day 12 strokes back in sixth place.

Alex Zillig (+7) was the top Bruin finisher in the event, shooting 151 to tie for 15th place. Hugo Ronnberg (+10), who entered Wednesday as the team leader, finished in a tie for 26th place at 154.

Rodrigo Navarette (+9) and Baptiste Bonnet (+11) shared team-high honors in knocking five strokes off their first round score to finish in 24th and 28th place with scores of 153 and 155, respectively.

Floris-Jan Oosterhof (+14) finished in 36th place. Zillig and Ronnberg posted matching 2-over scores of 74 on Wednesday.

Rocky Mountain's Mitchell Theisen took home the individual title with a 4-under score of 140. He entered the day two strokes back but fired a 68 en route to a three-stroke win over Wayland Baptist's Sebastien Tremulot (143, -1).

Haydn Driver, of Rocky Mountain, carded a tournament-best 5-under round on Wednesday shooting 67 to finish at 1-over for the event and tie for fifth place.

The Master's Eric Martin, who began the day atop the leaderboard at 2-under, slumped to an 11-over 83 as he finished in a tie for 24th place.

Loaded Field:

Six of the 12 teams in the event were ranked in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, which was released last Friday, Mar. 11, while two others were among those receiving votes but not ranked.
