LEMONT, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team is in first place after the opening round of play at the Flyer Intercollegiate being played at the 6,855-yard, par-72 Cog Hill Dubsdread Course. The 36-hole tournament is being hosted by Lewis University.
The 19-team tournament features 12 teams from NCAA Division II.
The Bruins shot a team score of 1-under par 287 and lead second-place Roosevelt University by 12 strokes.
Rodrigo Navarrete led the Bruins on Monday with a 2-under par 70 and is currently tied for first place in the 108-player field. Navarrete's round was sparked by five birdies and an eagle.
Hugo Ronnberg is tied for third at 1-under par. He had four birdies in the opening round.
Floris-Jan Oosterhof and Alex Zillig are both tied for 10th place at 1-over par. Both players had four birdies on Monday.
Baptiste Bonnet rounded out the scoring for BU, finishing at 5-over par.
Roosevelt's Nicolas Paviet is tied with Navarette for the tournament lead at 2-under par.
Tuesday's final round will begin with a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start.
