Bruins lead after first day of NW Iowa National Invite

LE MARS, Iowa -- Floris-Jan Oosterhof holds the individual lead and has guided the Bellevue University men's golf team to a two-stroke lead after two rounds of play in the Northwest Iowa National Invitational on Monday afternoon.

Floris-Jan Oosterhof, Hugo Ronnberg, and Baptiste Bonnet each find themselves in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard after two rounds of play.

Oosterhof, the tournament leader, shot a pair of sub-70 rounds carding a 3-under 69 in the first round and back it up with a 4-under second round 68, the best by a Bruin this year. At 7-under, he is one stroke ahead of Missouri Valley's Simon Vicente Juan Ignacio (138) at 6-under. Oosterhof racked up 11 birdies against just a pair of bogeys and one double bogey on the day.

Ronnberg recorded a pair of 2-under rounds and sits fourth overall at 4-under (140). Bonnet is in a tie for seventh at 1-under (143) after logging a 1-over first round and following up with a 2-under second round. Ronnberg tallied eight birdies and four bogeys while Bonnet eight birdies and one of BU's two eagles on the par five third hole in the first round.

Alex Zillig (149, +5) is tied for 31st and Rodrigo Navarrete (153, +9), making his season debut, is in a tie for 53rd. Zillig finished with eight birdies and Navarrete carded out with three birdies and Bellevue's other eagle – also on the par five third hole – in the second round.

Golfing as an individual, Hugo Brandt recorded six birdies and is tied for 47th with a two-round total of 152 (+8).

Bellevue (569, -7) holds a two-stroke lead over second place and 19th-ranked Grand View (571, -5). Missouri Valley College (580, +4) is nine strokes further back in third, No. 13-ranked Morningside University is fourth with a team score of 583 (+7), and Midland University rounds out the top five with a score of 586 (+10).

The Northwest Iowa National Invitational wraps up with tomorrow's third round. The Bruins will then travel to Albert Lea, Minn. for the Conference Review to be held at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club on Sunday-Monday, Sept. 26-27.
