MADISON, S.D. -- Bellevue University junior Rodrigo Navarrete (Guadalajara, Mexico) has been named the North Star Athletic Association Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Navarrete won the William Woods Spring Invite last week with a 2-over 36-hole total. After a 2-over first round, Navarrete fired an even-par 72 on the 6,825 yard course to claim the individual title in the 65-golfer field. Navarrete now has five top-3 and six top-5 finished on the year; his second round 72 was tied for the lowest round of the event.
In winning the individual title, Navarrete helped the Bruins to their second-straight team title and sixth of the season. Bellevue has won or tied for first in six of nine tournaments they have entered this season.
The Bruins return to the golf course next week at the U.C. Ferguson Classic in Oklahoma City, Okla. Action begins at 8 a.m. on both Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 12 and 13, from the Lincoln Park Golf Course.
