Ronnberg, Bruins lead after 18 at Nebraska Intercollegiate

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Hugo Ronnberg leads four Bruin golfers under par as the Bellevue University men's golf team has built a 14-stroke lead after the first round of play at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Championship, hosted by the Nebraska Golf Association.

Nebraska Intercollegiate:

Location: Norfolk, Neb.
Host: Nebraska Golf Association
Par: 72
Yardage: 6765 yards
Teams: 8
Golfers: 40

Team Recap:

All four scoring golfers for Bellevue shot under par on Friday as the Bruins compiled a 14-stroke lead on second place Nebraska Wesleyan.

Bellevue (-6) shot 282 as a team, outpacing Nebraska Wesleyan's (+8) 296 effort as a unit while Doane (+21) is 13 shots back of second place with a score of 309.

Were it not for Bryce VunCannon (NWU), Bellevue would have swept the top four spots in the individual standings.

Bellevue's second (gold) team is in fifth at 28-over (316).

Individual Recap:

Hugo Ronnberg (-3), making his collegiate debut, fired a first round best 69 to take a two-stroke lead over a host of golfers after Friday's first round.

Bruin teammates Alex Zillig, Floris-Jan Oosterhof, and Rodrigo Navarette all carded 1-under rounds of 71 and are tied for second along with NWU's VunCannon.

Ronnberg shot 3-under on the back nine as he birdied four holes (4, 11, 12, 18) on the day to compensate for a bogey on Hole 6.

Navarette paced the team with five birdies (3, 10, 11, 16, 18), including four on the back nine.

Zillig matched Ronnberg with a 3-under back nine with birdies on 14 and 18. He eagled on 15 and bogeyed 17.

Andre Becerra shot a 5-over 76 for the day which was good for 12th place overall – and would have been good enough for third on any other team – but did not factor into the BU team score.

Cameron Lampe led the gold unit with a 2-over 74 and is tied for eighth overall. Baptiste Bonnet (+4), Lucas Leinen (+8), and Evan Macke (+14) rounded out the gold squad.
