Becerra, Navarrete pace BU to second place after 1st round at NAIA Fall Preview

SILVIS, Ill. -- Propelled by the strong play of senior Andre Becerra and junior Rodrigo Navarrete, the Bellevue University men's golf team currently sits in second place at the 15-team NAIA Fall Preview being played at the 6,538-yard, par-71 TPC at Deere Run. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 13-over par 297 and trail tournament-leader Point (Ga.) University by five strokes. 

Becerra fired an even-par 71 on the day and is in second place in the individual standings. He was consistent throughout the round with 16 pars, one birdie, and one bogey. 

Navarrete is currently in third place at 1-over par on the day. His round consisted of three birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey. 

Point's Ruan Pretorius leads the 75-player field at 2-under par (69). 

Floris-Jan Oosterhof registered a 5-over 76 and is currently tied for 13th place. 

Baptiste Bonnet is tied for 22nd after carding a 7-over 78 in Monday's opening round. Bonnet's round was highlighted by four birdies. 

The Bruins' fifth golfer was Alex Zillig, who shot an 9-over 79 and is tied for 24th place. 

Tuesday's final round will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
