Bruins fourth after 36 holes at Gaillardia

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After a challenging first day, the Bellevue University men's golf team sits in fourth place following 36 holes of play at the Southern Plains Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by Oklahoma City University at the Gaillardia Country Club.

Team Recap:

Bellevue shaved six strokes off their team score from the first to second rounds in difficult playing conditions.

Temperatures were chilly, in the low-to-mid 40s on Monday with the wind blowing at a fairly steady 15-20 miles per hour.

Host Oklahoma City (295-291—586) holds a 12-stroke lead over second place Texas Wesleyan (303-295—598) after 36 holes of play. Grand View (305-301—606) sits in third place, six shots ahead of the Bruins (310-304—614).

Science & Arts (344-317—661) and Southwestern (337-330—667) round out the playing field.

Individual Recap:

Alex Zillig led three scoring golfers for BU who improved their score from the first to second round. After carding a 3-over 75 to begin the day, Zillig came back with a solid 1-over 73 as he sits in 11th place (4-over) after two rounds of play.

Andre Becerra (79-76—155) and Cameron Lampe (82-78—160) were the two other Bruin golfers who saw their scores improve in the second round as the duo are tied for 18th and 26th, respectively.

Floris-Jan Oosterhof began the day with a 4-over first round and backed it up with a 5-over score in the second 18 holes. He is tied for 15th at 9-over.

Rodrigo Navarette (80-83—163) is tied for 32nd.

Lautaro Marzilio (t-22nd, +12), Lucas Leinen (t-30th, +18), Tobias Santillan Tambosco (t-36th, +22), and Evan Macke (40th, +24) are all golfing as individuals for BU.

Ferdinand Muller (Oklahoma State) sits atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under (72-65—137), three strokes ahead of Bedlam rival Riley Casey (Oklahoma) with a score of 2-under (69-71—140).

Up Next:

Bellevue concludes play at the Southern Plains Intercollegiate – as well as the fall portion of their schedule – with Tuesday's final round. Play is slated to begin at 11 a.m., with the tournament committee deciding to allow additional time for any frost on the course to dissipate.
