Brooks, Zillig sweep NSAA Golfer of the Week

MADISON, S.D. -- A pair of Bellevue University student-athletes have been cited by the North Star Athletic Association as the NSAA's Golfers of the Week for their respective performances over the past week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Madison Brooks (Farmersville, Texas) was chosen as the NSAA Women's Golfer of the Week at the midway point of the Eagle Spring Golf Classic at Battlecreek Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla. She began Tuesday's second round tied for fifth among individuals and helping BU to a share of the tournament lead after carding an 8-over, 80 in the first round.

Brooks, for the season, entered the Eagle Spring Golf Classic with an average round score of 83.92 (in 12 rounds) and earned a top five finish at the Ottawa Fall Invitational.

Upon completion of the Eagle Spring Golf Classic, Bellevue will compete at the Concordia Spring Invitational at Highlands Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb. from Mar. 28-29.

Freshman Alex Zillig (La Vista, Neb.) earned NSAA Men's Golfer of the Week honors after pacing the Bruins to a ninth place finish at the prestigious Battle at Primm at the Primm Valley Golf Course in Primm Valley, Nev. Zillig shot 3-over (243) for the tournament to tie for 21st place in the 100-golfer field.

Zillig, on the year, has fired an average round score of 74.12 (in 17 rounds) and has earned a pair of top 10 finishes, including a second place showing at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Classic.

Next up for the BU men is the Wildcat Cup at the Brickyard which will be played at Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis, Ind. from Monday, Apr. 8 through Tuesday, Apr. 9.
