KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In an announcement made by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, junior Fernando Arzate (Ocotlan, Mexico) and freshman Andre Becerra (Guadalajara, Mexico) were both named third team NAIA All-Americans for the 2016-17 season.
Arzate is a two-time all-conference an all-Region selection for the Bruins. He led Bellevue with a 74.30 stroke average, winning one tournament and placing in the top five on five occasions and the top 10 seven times. Arzate shot even par or better in 11 rounds this season.
Becerra, who earned all-Region honors this season, was named the NAIA National Golfer of the Week on April 5 after winning the 60-player TPC Deere Run Invitational with identical rounds of 3-under-par 68.
Becerra was second on the team with a 74.36 stroke average. He placed first in one tournament and in the top five in two events. Becerra shot three of the Bruins' top four rounds on the season and was even par or better in five rounds.
The 2016-17 Bruins won their sixth-straight conference title, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the sixth-consecutive season.
