SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team currently sits in 25th place after the opening round of the 72-hole NAIA Men's Golf National Championship, being played at the par-71, 6,651-yard TPC at Deere Run Tuesday.
Led by Diego Gudino, the Bruins shot a team score of 41-over-par 325 in Tuesday's opening round. Cardinal Stritch University leads the 29-team field after shooting a 5-over-par total of 289.
Gudino is currently tied for 84th in the 155-player field with a first round score of 8-over-par 79. Fernando Arzate is tied for 109th after firing an 81. Andre Becerra carded an 11-over 82, putting him in a tie for 121st. Rounding out the Bruin scoring was Nicolas Handal, who shot a first-round score of 83.
Texas Wesleyan's Rowan Lester and William Woods' David Houlding lead the tournament field after both shot a 69 on Tuesday.
The Bruins will tee off with a 9 a.m. start in Wednesday's second round.
